The Decision Wasn’t Hard. Getting It Approved Was.
Someone on a vessel three miles offshore is sitting on a purchase order that needs approval by end of day.
The supplier is calling.
The office is chasing.
The approver is in the field.
And a normal purchase is turning into a small crisis.
This happens constantly in marine, construction, and industrial operations because approval processes are still built for people sitting at desks.
The fix is not chasing harder.
It is making the decision easy to make.
A good automation should turn the request into a mobile approval card with only the information that matters:
Vendor Amount Job What is being purchased Why it is needed Approve or decline
If approved, the system should automatically notify purchasing, update the record, timestamp the decision, and keep the backup attached.
If declined, it should route the request back with the reason.
If nobody responds, it should escalate before the deadline becomes a problem.
That is the real value.
Not eliminating the approver.
Eliminating the friction around the approval.
Try this:
Look at the approvals that stalled this week.
How many were actually difficult decisions?
And how many were simply buried in the wrong format, sent to the wrong place, or waiting on someone to get back to a laptop?
If the decision can be made in sixty seconds, the process should be built to let it happen that fast.
